Maine State legislators have submitted a letter to President Biden requesting that his administration take steps to immediately rescind the closure in the Lobster Management Area 1 Seasonal Restricted Area.
Also, the bipartisan request is looking to order all applicable agencies to re-engage with the State of Maine and its agencies and stakeholders to find a path forward that both protects the endangered right whale, and follows the facts and best known science in dealing with Maine fisheries.
Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham (R-Winter Harbor), a lobster fisherman, initiated the letter. It includes signatures from one hundred thirty-seven Republican, Democrat and Independent state legislators from across Maine.
