Three teenagers have been taken into custody after the fatal fire Saturday, Sept. 11, on Blake Street in Lewiston.

the Lewiston Fire Department and Lewiston Police Department responded to a six story multi-unit apartment building fire at 226 Blake Street. The building was evacuated but 70-year-old Felicien Betu was trapped in an apartment on the sixth floor. Emergency response personnel were making attempts to reach him when he jumped from a window in an attempt to escape the fire. He died as a result of the injuries.

Due to the nature of the fire, the Lewiston Fire Department contacted the Fire Marshals’ office. A team of investigators responded to Lewiston and began conducting an investigation in an attempt to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation determined that the fire was arson. Monday, Sept. 13, three juveniles were taken into custody, two 13 year old’s and one 14 year old. They were transported to the Long Creek Correctional Facility.
