Warden K9 Luna and Game Warden Michael Latti rescued a missing 80-year-old man in Oxford last night, Sept. 23.

Thomas Cushman, 80, of Oxford had left his residence in the morning to survey his property lines. Later in the afternoon, Cushman, who has early onset dementia, had not returned and the family called 911.

Oxford Police Department, Oxford Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police began searching for Cushman. Warden Latti and K9 Luna, along with a State Police K9 unit, also began searching the area behind Cushman’s house.

Luna picked up a scent, and started tracking through the woods down an old woods road. Luna soon got ahead of Latti, and once out of sight, started to signal by barking that she had located someone.

Latti and State Trooper Fillebrown went to Luna and found Cushman sitting on a rock next to Luna. Warden Latti and Trooper Fillebrown assisted Cushman out of the woods, where he was examined by emergency medical personnel and then reunited with his family.
