Daniel J. Hammond, age 46, of Naples died this past weekend when the snowmobile he was driving veered off the trail and into the trees.
Hammond was riding with a group of three friends on a snowmobile trail in Harrison Saturday morning, Jan. 22, when the group stopped to cross the Cape Monday Road. After two of his friends crossed the road, Hammond crossed the road with his other friend behind him. Upon crossing the road, Hammond travelled on the trail a short distance before driving off the trail and crashing into the trees.
Hammond was initially conscious after the crash, but succumbed to his injuries at the scene twenty minutes later. He was wearing a helmet while driving his 2022 Ski-Doo 850 Back Country.
The Maine Warden Service continues to investigate the crash.
