Colby College in Waterville has announced that they have taken over stewardship of Allen Island and Benner Island off the coast of Maine.
Colby acquired the islands from Up East Foundation and the Wyeth Foundation for American Art. The school hopes to create an island campus and expand academic programs at the islands off St. George.

Colby College has become the new steward of two historic islands off the coast of Maine: Allen and Benner Islands. The setting for some of renowned American artist Andrew Wyeth’s greatest works—inspired and influenced by the landscape and architecture curated by his wife, Betsy Wyeth—the College will help preserve these extraordinary areas and continue to utilize them as centers for learning, research, and creative inspiration.
