The current public transportation mask mandate was scheduled to end on April 18. The CDC has now extended it for 15 more days, until May 3, because of an uptick in COVID-19 cases.
The CDC says they will be studying the increase in cases of BA.2 omicron subvariant, that is now responsible for the vast majority of cases in the U.S.
