Monday night, July 18, the Kennebec County Sheriff’s department received a report of a deceased female in a home in Mt. Vernon. The homeowner who returned to the residence found her 14-year-old daughter deceased and called the police. The Kennebec County Sheriff’s department called in the State Police Major Crimes Unit, which investigates all homicides and suspicious deaths in the state.

State Police Evidence Technicians and Detectives worked into the early morning hours looking for evidence and conducting interviews. Deputies and Troopers also searched the greater Kennebec County area overnight looking for a red 2010 Chevy Impala with a Maine support wildlife registration plate of 510-AVW after the homeowner discovered one of her vehicles was missing from the driveway. The vehicle was taken without her permission Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday morning, July 19, 2022 law enforcement officers located the vehicle in Wayne. Detectives are looking to talk to anyone who may have seen the car Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

Also on Tuesday the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Maine State Police at 624-7076.
