Last night, July 28, the Rockland Police Department responded to a home on James Street following the discovery of a grenade. As a precaution Rockland Police Officers evacuated nearby homes.

The Maine State Police Bomb Team and the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office were contacted and responded to the scene. An investigation determined the grenade had been altered and was not a danger to anyone.

It had been left by someone who had lived at the residence but moved out in 2015. The Maine State Police Bomb Team removed the grenade and will dispose of it.
