The Queen of England, Elizabeth II Dead at 96

Queen Elizabeth II has died at 96. Britain’s longest-reigning monarch is to be succeeded by her eldest son, Charles, the Prince of Wales. She had been on the throne for 70 years.

Governor Janet Mills issued the following statement following the passing of Queen Elizabeth:

Queen Elizabeth served with dignity and grace across her historic seventy year reign. On behalf of the people of Maine, I offer our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
