38-year-old Christopher Poirier of Waterville has been arrested after he led police on a chase that included the ramming of a Waterville Police cruiser.
Maine State Police joined the pursuit, Dec. 21, which began on Kennedy Memorial Drive continued on the interstate and concluded on Old Belgrade Road.
From the Waterville Police Department:
Members of the Waterville Police Department pursued a man suspected of stealing a motor vehicle before ramming their cruiser during a chase, disabling it. At approximately 08:30 AM on 12/21/25, members of the Waterville Police Department responded to Dunkin Donut’s on College Avenue for the report of a stolen black Chevrolet
Monte Carlo. While searching the area, officers located the stolen vehicle on Kennedy Memorial Drive and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect (later identified as Christopher Poirier, 38 of Waterville) refused to stop, leading police on a chase southbound on the interstate toward Augusta. It is important to note that prior to this incident Christopher had been removed from a local business at the request of staff. While on the interstate Waterville Police Officers were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device, but the suspect continued traveling southbound with partially deflated tires. Members of the Maine State Police joined the chase prior to exiting interstate I95 at Exit 113, and they were able to successfully execute a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT). Unfortunately, during the chase Christopher struck a Waterville Police Cruiser completely disabling it. Once at rest, Christopher fled the stolen vehicle on foot but was taken into custody a short time later on Old Belgrade Road. Christopher was charged with eluding an officer, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal mischief, theft by unauthorized taking, driving to endanger, operating with a suspended license, and criminal speed. He was then transported to Kennebec County Jail on $2,560 bail.
The investigation is still active, but we do not expect additional charges going forward.
