The Brewer Police Department investigated a threat, Jan. 21, to school staff in the city and said similar threats occurred, consistent with “swatting” incidents.

No threats were discovered and operations at the schools resumed.

From the Brewer Police Department:

On January 21, 2026, at approximately 8:16 a.m., the Brewer Police Department assisted another law enforcement agency investigating a threat in which an individual had communicated an intent to kill school staff and others. Information provided to police identified a person of interest, a male believed to reside in Brewer. As officers staged near a Brewer residence to locate and safely contact the person of interest, Brewer Schools and School Resource Officers were notified for situational awareness and to ensure appropriate security measures. During this operation, a woman (not involved with the matter at hand) deliberately drove to the scene and interfered with police activity by repeatedly sounding an air horn, refusing lawful orders to leave, and yelling at expletives at officers. The woman stated that she “didn’t want ICE” in her neighborhood. Her actions interfered with legitimate law enforcement operations and created a real risk to the investigating officers. Officers located the person of interest. Subsequent investigation determined the individual was not responsible for the school threat. Law enforcement later confirmed that multiple educational facilities had received similar threats that morning, consistent with “swatting” incidents. Once it was confirmed there was no threat to Brewer Schools, normal operations resumed.

There was a similar situation at the Old Town Elementary School.
