UPDATE: 29-year-old Alberto Nafoia of Lewiston, has been convicted of driving to endanger in an Oct. 2024 incident, when a 7-year-old was injured.

From the Auburn Police Department:

The Auburn Police Department is providing an update regarding the vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash that occurred on October 1, 2024, in front of Fairview School on Minot Avenue. Following a day-long bench trial in Androscoggin County, the operator involved in the crash, Alberto Nafoia, 29, of Lewiston, has been convicted of Driving to Endanger. Following the trial, District Attorney Neil McLean Jr. praised his Assistant District Attorney for the successful prosecution, as well as the Auburn Police Officers who testified. The defense attorney representing Mr. Nafoia sought a dismissal of all charges; however, the court ultimately found that the evidence presented by prosecutors and the testimony of responding officers prevailed, demonstrating criminal negligence on behalf of Nafoia. He will be sentenced at a later date. This case stemmed from an incident in which a 7-year-old child was struck while crossing Minot Avenue in a marked crosswalk within a posted school zone while a crossing guard was actively stopping traffic. The child was treated for injuries and has since recovered.
