A new bill would would prevent agricultural fairs in Maine from operating outside their assigned fair dates.
The measure comes about after controversy last year when the Fryeburg Fair opened a day early last fall. The schedule overlapped with the last day of the Cumberland Fair, typically their busiest.
If passed, the bill would prevent a similar situation and and allow the state to suspend or revoke the license of any fair that fails to comply.
