Rockland Police say 38-year-old Daniel Barnes, charged with drug possession, is missing after escaping a Rockland medical care facility.

Barnes was arrested last week being found in possession of 10 grams of cocaine.

From the Rockland PD:

On 02/05/2026, Rockland Police arrested Daniel Barnes (38 years-old / transient) while investigating suspected drug trafficking at a local hotel. Approximately 10 grams of cocaine, including crack cocaine, was seized by officers. Barnes, who was out on bail for an unrelated pending felony drug charge; as well as on probation for a Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening conviction; was arrested and charged with drug possession. Barnes faces expected charges of felony drug possession and violation of conditions of release. This arrest was made by Rockland’s Proactive Crime Interdiction Officer (PCIO), a new position approved this year to focus on proactively addressing; through community oriented and modern law enforcement techniques, areas involved in burglary or theft sprees, narcotic use/sales, high-volume traffic infractions, and disorderly properties or neighborhoods. Unfortunately, Barnes had to be released to a facility for medical care. Barnes has since absconded from that care and Rockland Police would like to locate him.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact their local law enforcement. In Knox County, that would be done by contacting the Knox Regional Communication Center at (207) 593-9132.
