The Winthrop Police Department says a pedestrian was killed Wednesday, Feb. 11 on Route 202 in Winthrop.

The victim has not yet been identified.

From the Winthrop PD:

On February 11, 2026, at 5:57 PM, Winthrop Police, Fire and Ambulance Departments responded to a car-pedestrian motor vehicle crash on Route 202 in the vicinity of Winthrop Vet Clinic. The pedestrian was transported to Maine General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Vehicle 1 was driven by Merton Ward, 51 years of age from Augusta. The motor vehicle involved was a black 2015 Dodge pickup truck which was operated by Merton Ward. Vehicle 1 was heading east on Route 202 when it struck the pedestrian. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. Route 202 was shut down for approximately 3.5 hours. The crash is currently under investigation at this time and is being reconstructed by Maine State Police. The Monmouth Police Department, and Maine State Police are assisting with the investigation, and the Kennebec-Somerset District Attorney’s Office has been notified.
