Portland Police say that human remains were discovered early Thursday morning, March 19, in the woods behind the Homeless Services Center on Riverside Street.

Upon arrival, officers found remains that appeared to have been there for a significant amount of time.

Officials say the death does not appear suspicious. The body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who will determine the cause and manner of death.

Police are working to identify the deceased.
