Construction on the Donald V. Carter Memorial Bridge connecting Waterville and Winslow has been pushed back after the Maine Department of Transportation was unable to obtain needed materials.
Work is now expected to begin in late July. During the first phase, the bridge will remain open with two-way traffic in narrowed lanes. In the second phase, eastbound traffic will be closed, leaving only westbound travel from Winslow into Waterville.
The project includes replacing the bridge’s wearing surface, installing a new waterproof membrane and pavement, and replacing aging expansion joints at both ends of the bridge.
