39-year-old Ashley McBryde received a surprise invitation from Garth Brooks to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry during Thursday’s episode of ‘CBS Mornings.’ McBryde was appearing on the show in support of her new collaborative concept album, “Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville,” featuring appearances from Brothers Osborne, Caylee Hammack, Brandy Clark and more.
Brooks teared up as he asked McBryde to consider becoming the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry, and an emotional McBryde accepted, saying: “It’d be the great joy and the great honor of my life. Thank you.” Brooks then celebrated McBryde joining the Nashville country music institution saying: “You belong in it. We need you. You’ll make us stronger for decades to come. I love you, congratulations. Couldn’t happen to a sweeter person.”
McBryde then added: “There’s Grammys, and there’s bein’ in front of the Grand Ole Opry – the two greatest things that could happen to you as an entertainer. I always said I will earn it. This is a pretty surreal moment.”.
According to Opry organizers, an induction date will be announced in the near future.
