The Rumford Police and Fire Departments were called to Mountain Valley Variety on Hancock Street in Rumford on Sept. 2 for a report of a fire outside of the building.

The Fire Marshal’s office was contacted and an Investigator responded to the scene. The Office of State Fire Marshal, in conjunction with the Rumford Police and Fire Department, was able to determine Christopher Labbe, 42, had started a fire next to the building. The building was not damaged as Labbe’s actions were interrupted by witnesses.

The Investigator from the Fire Marshal’s office arrested Labbe and charged him with Arson. He was transported to the Oxford County Jail.
