Last night, Oct. 13, officers from the Augusta Police Department, responded to 155 Hospital Street, for a report of a male subject armed with a knife, threatening other residents.
After contact was made, an incident involving deadly force occurred between the male subject and Sergeant Blodgett and Officer Guptill. Neither Sergeant Blodgett nor Officer Guptill were injured during the armed altercation.
As is standard practice during every officer involved shooting, this incident is currently being investigated by the Office of the Attorney General who will focus upon a determination of whether deadly force was in fact used and whether self-defense or defense of others is reasonably generated on the facts.
Sergeant Blodgett and Officer Guptill have been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard operating procedure,
