James Franco Claims Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Him Are ‘Salacious’ And ‘False’

James Franco is responding to two women who claim they were sexually exploited by his acting school, Playhouse West Studio 4 (before it closed in 2017.)

Franco, 41, filed a demurrer — a written objection to the lawsuit filed in October by Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Toni Gaal, in which he claims the allegations were “salacious” and that the two were “attention-hungry.” The demurrer added: “While the salacious allegations in the complaint have made great tabloid fodder, they are also false and inflammatory, legally baseless and brought improperly in the form of a class action largely to gain as much publicity as possible,” the demurrer stated. “This lawsuit is a travesty of justice and the culmination of a meritless campaign that has unfairly tarnished a decent man’s hard-earned reputation.”

Tither-Kaplan accused Franco of sexually exploiting her in January 2018 alongside four other women in an article published by The Los Angeles Times. She claimed that Franco removed safety guards while filming an oral sex scene on the set of the 2015 film The Long Home. Tither-Kaplan and Gaal’s lawsuit, which they filed in October, accused Franco and his business partners of engaging in “widespread inappropriate and sexually charged behavior towards female students by sexualizing their power as a teacher and an employer by dangling the opportunity for roles in their projects.”

‘Judge Judy’ To End After 25 Seasons; Will Be Replaced By New Show ‘Judy Justice’

Long-time Judge Judy television personality Judy Sheindlin said that her CBS show will be coming to an end after concluding its 2020 to 2021 season, its 25th in total.
“I’ve had a 25-year-long marriage with CBS, and it’s been successful,” she said to the talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. “Next year will be our 25th season, silver anniversary, and CBS sort of felt, I think, they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program. Because now they have 25 years of reruns. So what they decided to do was to sell a couple of years’ worth of reruns.”
Sheindlin mentioned another show in the works, Judy Justice, but did not provide any further details.  Judge Judy remains one of television’s top reality courtroom series, winning three Emmy Awards and leading the ratings. Sheindlin is currently the highest-paid television personality with an annual salary of $47 million.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar Drops Out Of Democratic Race For President

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar has dropped out of the race to become the Democratic presidential candidate for the 2020 US election. Kobluchar endorsed her rival Joe Biden at a rally in Dallas on Monday night, ahead of the crucial Super Tuesday primary elections. “I cannot think of a better way to end my campaign than joining his,” she told the crowd.  Klobuchar is the latest in a string of dropouts; former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg decided to end his campaign Sunday evening, also endorsing Biden on Monday. And billionaire Tom Steyer dropped out over the weekend after a disappointing showing in the South Carolina Democratic primary.

59-year-old Klobuchar had touted her experience and history of statewide wins in Minnesota, arguing that she was the best fit to face Donald Trump in the general election. However, despite a high profile endorsement from the New York Times, Klobuchar failed to break through into the very top tier of the primary field.  Klobuchar, never polled beyond the high single digits or low double digits, and failed to rally to remain in the race beyond the earliest primary contests. Klobuchar was dogged by persistent allegations that she was cruel to her staff. Even when the New York Times endorsed her, the paper’s editorial board noted that those reports were problematic.

U.S. Death Toll From Coronavirus Rises To 6 In Washington State

Health officials in Washington state announced four additional deaths from the coronavirus on Monday, raising the U.S. death toll to six. A man in his 70s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 80s died in King County on Sunday from the virus, which causes a disease called COVID-19. The sixth death was reported in Snohomish County. Information about the patient has not been released.

Dr. Kathy Lofy, Washington’s state health officer, told reporters at a press conference Monday, “Unfortunately, we are starting to find more COVID-19 cases here in Washington that appear to be acquired locally here in Washington. We now know that the virus is actively spreading in some communities.”  Washington Gov. Jay Inslee issued a statewide emergency proclamation over the weekend, saying in a statement: “This means our state can respond quickly and effectively. Our priority now is to slow the spread of this virus. Our health care professionals say the easiest way to do that is to practice good hygiene – wash your hands often, sanitize frequently touched surfaces and stay home when you’re sick. Preventing future cases will require the work of all of us.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. has at least 91 cases of the virus. The global death toll from the coronavirus exceeds 3,000.
