According to the Lewiston Police Department, Friday morning, March 26, a pedestrian was struck by a train in the area of Whipple Street.
Upon arrival, responders located an adult male beneath a railroad car.
The individual was extricated and transported to Central Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary information indicates the train was traveling south toward Auburn at the time of the incident.
Investigators from the Railroad Authority are currently leading the investigation.
At this time, railroad cars are blocking traffic on Libby Avenue and Strawberry Avenue. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.
The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.
