Five people were displaced by a fire at one of two buildings owned by the Hope House on College Street in Lewiston, April 9.

From the Lewiston Fire Department:

Shortly before 16:30 this evening Official City of Lewiston, Maine fire department was dispatched to the 80’s block of College St. for a reported structure fire. Responding firefighters could see the smoke from a few blocks away. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a two story home with a well established fire on the first floor.
Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines, initiated an aggressive interior attack, and were able to extinguish a majority of the fire in under 10 minutes. Firefighters spent two additional hours overhauling and extinguishing small fires located in void spaces. 1 person was evaluated on scene by United Ambulance Service and released. Our fire prevention team is investigating the cause and origin.
