Maine lawmakers have passed a temporary ban on large new data centers in the state, which would make Maine the first in the nation to have such a law.
The concern is that large data centers can use a plethora of energy and resources, that may be disruptive to communities.
Next step? the plan goes to Governor Janet Mills. If she signs it, a one-year pause would apply to large data centers.
Smaller ones, that use less electricity, would still be allowed in Maine.
