A 45-year-old Bangor man faces multiple charges after police say he pushed a woman out of her wheelchair on Main Street and took her hat before resisting arrest.

The incident occurred around 9:53 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2026, in front of the Bangor Fire Department. Officers were called to check on the welfare of the woman, who appeared to have fallen from her wheelchair. Officer Alex Helton responded and, after speaking with the woman and several witnesses, determined that Christopher Genge had caused her to fall. Police also learned that Genge had taken the woman’s hat.

Officers located Genge nearby, still wearing the hat. When officers attempted to speak with him, Genge tried to leave the area on foot. He was informed he was under arrest but became uncooperative and actively resisted. Additional officers arrived to assist, and Genge was taken into custody. He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail.

Genge was charged with offenses including, theft and assault.
