2020 Democratic Primary: Joe Biden Wins Florida, Arizona and Illinois

Joe Biden won the Florida, Illinois and Arizona primaries on Tuesday, moving closer to the Democratic presidential nomination amid coronavirus concerns. The former vice president is on course to expand his lead toward the 1,991 delegates needed to clinch the nomination on the first ballot.

The primaries came as the coronavirus outbreak sent the economy into a tailspin, though large numbers of votes had already been banked in the early voting period.

Ohio postponed its primary at the last minute. For further details, see the link below.

Dow Jones Rises 1,000 Points After News Of Coronavirus Stimulus Plan

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded on Tuesday, climbing more than 1,000 points or over 5% by the time market’s closed. The index saw more than 500-point swings, coming after it suffered its worst day since the “Black Monday” crash of 1987 on Monday, plunging nearly 3,000 points or 12.94%.  The S&P 500 and Nasdaq also climbed Tuesday, with both indices up by 5.99% and 6.23%, respectively, at closing.

After the Federal Reserve announced further intervention amid the coronavirus crisis, establishing a commercial paper fund to help support the flow of credit to U.S. households and businesses, the rise began.  Additionally, hopes of a further stimulus package from the Trump administration, that included money going directly into the Americans’ pockets, also seemed to quell investors’ anxieties about the economy after the steep sell-off Monday.

President Donald Trump said at a press briefing Tuesday, “At my direction, [Treasury] Secretary Mnuchin is meeting today with senators on additional stimulus packages.”

Country Music Hall Of Fame And Museum Closes Through March 31

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum closed its doors for the rest of the month, out of “an abundance of caution” relating to COVID-19.  The museum, as well as its neighboring facilities Hatch Show Print and the CMA Theater, and tours of RCA Studio B on Music Row, will remain closed through March 31.

Museum CEO Kyle Young said in a press release:  “The health and safety of our guests and staff is our top priority. While there have not been any confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) connected to the museum at this time, we must do all that we can to help ensure a safe and healthy environment for our visitors, employees and community, which at this time calls for us to close temporarily.”  The museum says it “will continue to monitor and rely on the guidance from public health officials” as it makes decisions in the future.

Listen To Chris Young’s New Version Of His Single “Drowning”

Chris Young has dropped a piano-driven version of his Top 40 single, Drowning.

Drowning was partly inspired by the death of Chris’ close friend, Adam Carnes. Said Chris: “I actually wrote this song with two of my really good friends, Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge. All of us were writing to that hook, which Corey actually brought in that day, and we just all thought that it was an amazing idea and it was something that was gonna touch pretty much anybody that has ever lost anyone. I actually wrote it about a friend of mine, Adam, who passed away many years ago. It’s just a really, really special song to me and I hope it really touches a lot of people.”

Drowning follows the release of Chris’ Top 5 hit Raised on Country. Listen to the latest version of Drowning at the link here.

Penélope Cruz And Winona Ryder Defend Johnny Depp In His Defamation Lawsuit Against Ex-Wife Amber Heard

Penélope Cruz and Winona Ryder have submitted declarations in support to Johnny Depp in his ongoing defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.  Depp sued Heard in 2019 after she wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post, in which she characterized herself as a victim of domestic abuse.

Ryder, who had a four-year relationship with Depp, wrote in the documents: “I am aware of the violence allegations that have been made publicly for the last few years by Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard. I do not want to call anyone a liar but from my experience of Johnny, it is impossible to believe that such horrific allegations are true. I find it extremely upsetting knowing him as I do,” she said

Cruz, 45, wrote that she had not witnessed Depp, whom she met when she was 19, engaging in violent behavior, saying: “Many years have passed and I have not only made 3 movies with him, but I also count on him as a great friend. I’ve always been impressed by his kindness, his brilliant mind, his talent, and his peculiar sense of humor.”

Heard and Depp married in 2015. In May 2016, she filed for a domestic violence restraining order against him, accusing him of abusing her. Depp denied the claims. The former couple settled their divorce out of court and both actors signed NDAs barring them from discussing their relationship publicly. However, Depp’s lawyers filed a $50 million defamation suit against Heard in 2019 over her Dec. 18, 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post titled, “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”

Depp also sued U.K. tabloid The Sun in 2018 for libel over a story that called the actor a “wife-beater.” The trial is expected to begin on March 23 and last for two weeks.
