Fairfield Officers Morrison and Sgt. Dugas were dispatched to a trespass complaint on the Skowhegan Road in Fairfield. During the investigation of that complaint, the suspect of the alleged trespass was identified as Tyreek Smith, 34, of NYC. After the officers’ initial interaction with Smith, it was found that he had given a false date of birth to the officers. Officers were able to locate a correct date of birth for Smith and found that he had an active nationwide extradition warrant from New York State for parole violations stemming from a felony assault charge. Sgt. Dugas and Officer Morrison began coordinating with Troopers from the Maine State Police, to take Smith into custody in a location away from the residence where he was last seen, for safety reasons. A short time later, Smith was seen leaving the residence in a vehicle and a high risk traffic stop was conducted on the Interstate with several Troopers assisting. Smith was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Somerset County Jail where he was charged with being a Fugitive From Justice. He is currently being held without bail pending extradition proceedings.
