Lewiston Police responded Thursday afternoon, April 16, to St. Mary’s Hospital following a report of an individual wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation in Auburn who was believed to be armed.
Officers were called to the hospital around 3:00pm, after the individual fled from family members.
Due to the hospital’s close proximity to Lewiston Middle School, school officials placed the building on lockdown for students participating in after-school activities as a precaution. Bates College and several other nearby organizations also initiated lockdown procedures out of an abundance of caution.
Later in the investigation, Lewiston Police determined that no firearm had been observed by family members or any other witnesses. Authorities also confirmed the individual had made no threats to harm members of the public.
No arrests have been reported at this time, and the individual’s current whereabouts have not been publicly disclosed. The matter originated as part of a separate investigation in Auburn.
Lewiston Police have urged anyone with information related to the ongoing investigation to contact them directly.
