A 43-year-old Otisfield man has been arrested and charged with felony terrorizing after authorities say he made a bomb threat against Otisfield Elementary School earlier this week.

According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the school on Powhatan Road shortly after 7:30am on Tuesday, April 15, following reports of a potential bomb threat.

School staff immediately initiated safety protocols and placed the building on lockdown as a precaution while law enforcement investigated. Following a swift investigation, Lucas Johnson of Otisfield was identified as the individual responsible for the threat. Deputies located and arrested Johnson in Portland without incident. He was transported to the Oxford County Jail in South Paris, where he was booked.

Johnson has since posted bail and been released from custody. He faces several bail conditions, including a prohibition on any contact with teachers, staff, or administrators from Otisfield Elementary School. He is also barred from being on any MSAD 17 property.

Sheriff Christopher Wainwright stressed the seriousness with which such threats are handled:

Threats and behavior like this are taken very seriously. Myself and the entire staff remain committed to ensuring the safety of our schools. We are proud of the work we have done and the relationships we have forged with our community partners. We will always respond quickly and appropriately to any potential threats.

The incident remains under investigation by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
